Caring for your Fabric Awning after a harsh winter

Spring is just around the corner, or so says the Groundhog this year, and with all the snow and ice we have enjoyed this winter, your fabric awning might need some TLC as soon as the weather warms up.

All fabric awnings require cleaning twice a year to keep them looking their best and extend their life.

Cleaning your awning is really simple to do too.  It’s as easy as washing your car. Take a soft brush, a mild detergent, a water hose and wash away the grime and dirt that has settle on the surface. Rinse, lather, repeat until clean.  That’s it!  Really easy.

If your awning is vinyl fabric, it may need to be retreated with Vinyl Protectant to keep the fabric soft and pliable, especially after this harsh winter.  If your awning is “canvas”, or woven fabric, it may need to be retreated to keep it’s water repellency this summer.  Both products are available from us.  Just send an email to me at for a quote.

If cleaning doesn’t improve the appearance significantly, it may be time to replace the cover.  Again, just send me an email and I’ll give you a quote to recover your existing frame.

A Do-It-Yourself-er can remove and replace the fabric on your awnings for a fraction of the cost to hire an awning contractor.  Perhaps I should blog about that subject next time.  Let me know if you are interested.

If you have any comments, or questions, I’ll be happy to help.
